Schooling retired at the age of 28
Joseph Schooling announced his retirement through a social media announcement. The Singaporean fisherman decided to retire from competition at the age of 28.
" Today, I mark a new beginning at the end of my swimming career."
"I am grateful for the experiences that swimming has brought to my life. The brilliant victories, the bitter failures. These things have trained me and helped me to be resilient in moving on to the next chapter of my life . " Schooling wrote.
The Olympic champion thanked his family, coaches, teammates and fans for always supporting and standing by him throughout his career. The 28-year-old fisherman believes that his career has inspired many people to pursue their dreams despite any difficulties.
" I'm excited to explore new passions, face new challenges and see where life takes me. Thank you to all my supporters who are always by my side. I hope everyone will walk with me into the adventure to come ,' Shooling added.
Schooling announced his retirement.
The Singapore Swimming Association thanked Schooling for his contributions. The Association wrote: " Thank you for all the sacrifices you and your family have made, for the medals, the records and the great pride we all feel every time we see the Singapore flag raised. pull up ".
Joseph Schooling was born in 1995, is a Singaporean athlete. He became famous at the 2016 Rio Olympics. At that time, Schooling surprised when he surpassed the world's top swimmers such as Michael Phelps, Laszlo Cseh or Chad Le Clos to win the gold medal in the 100-meter butterfly event. He achieved an Olympic record of 50.39 seconds.
Joseph Schooling won 29 SEA Games gold medals and 3 ASIAD gold medals. Fishermen break and hold many records in swimming. He is the current Asian record holder in the men's 50 meters and 100 meters butterfly.
Schooling attended SEA Games 31 in Vietnam. He won 2 gold medals and 1 bronze medal. However, the athlete was later discovered to have used marijuana while in Hanoi. He must publicly apologize for this incident and return all awards.
At SEA Games 32, Schooling did not attend.
